Pasadena's latest news: Adaptive Sports Festival at Brookside Park, City Council's artificial turf decision, and Bark in the Park's Halloween dog costume contest.
Good afternoon, Pasadena. This is News N’ Roses. A giant pumpkin broke loose from a North Carolina farm this week and went rolling down the road. Luckily, it was inflatable, but if there are thousand-pound pumpkins in Pasadena, and you see one coming your way, run like Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

THE DIGEST
🏅Pasadena's Adaptive Sports Festival

Pasadena just announced its 8th Annual Adaptive Sports Festival, happening Saturday, November 7, at Brookside Park, bringing a full day of sports, fitness, and activities for people of all abilities.
Hosted by the City of Pasadena and Triumph Foundation, this free event gives participants the opportunity to try a wide range of adaptive sports, including archery, wheelchair rugby, pickleball, tennis, boxing, basketball, disc golf, and dance.
No experience is necessary! All equipment is provided, and trained coaches will be on hand to help everyone get involved. There will also be an interactive art workshop, a resource fair, and free lunch for registered attendees.
The festival runs from 9AM–2PM at Brookside Park (360 N. Arroyo Blvd.). Admission is free, but pre-registration is recommended. Click here to register or learn more.
🌱 Artificial Turf Wins Pasadena's Grass Debate
The grass isn't always greener on the other side. At least, that's what Pasadena City Council decided this week after months of debate over the future of two city athletic fields. In a 5–3 vote, the council approved replacing the aging artificial turf at Villa Parke and Robinson Park with newer synthetic surfaces rather than switching to natural grass.
The decision comes after months of back-and-forth between youth sports advocates, environmental groups, and residents. Supporters of artificial turf argued that it can withstand heavy use, requires less maintenance, and keeps fields available for more games and practices. Opponents raised concerns about extreme surface temperatures, potential chemical exposure, and environmental impacts.
The new turf will use recyclable materials, avoid PFAS in manufacturing, and incorporate natural infill materials like cork and sand. For now, artificial turf stays, but the city plans to continue evaluating natural grass for future park renovations.
🐶 Bark in the Park: Howl-O-Ween

Forget the ghosts and goblins. This Halloween, it's all about dogs in costumes!
On Sunday, October 25, Playhouse Village Park is hosting Bark in the Park: Howl-o-ween, a Halloween celebration where Pasadena's four-legged residents get to show off their best costumes. Hosted by the Playhouse Village Foundation, the event features a pup costume contest, giving local dogs the chance to parade around in their most creative, spooky, or downright ridiculous outfits.
Whether your pup is dressing up as a pumpkin, superhero, or hot dog (a classic!), this is a fun excuse to get outside and enjoy some Halloween festivities with your furry friend. And even if you don't have a dog, you can still stop by to admire the costumes and enjoy the cuteness. The event is free and runs from 11AM–2PM at Playhouse Village Park (701 Union St.).
