THE DIGEST
Pasadena Announces 2025 Latino Heritage Festival Theme
The City of Pasadena and the Latino Heritage Committee have set the theme for this year’s Latino Heritage Festival: “Un Pasado con Orgullo, un Futuro con Esperanza” (A Proud Past, a Hopeful Future). It is all about celebrating the strength and contributions of the Latino community while looking forward with optimism.
This year’s festival drops the parade in favor of an evening packed with music, food, and culture. Mark your calendar (we’ll also save the date for you) for Saturday, October 11, from 5PM to 9PM at Centennial Square in front of City Hall.
What to expect:
High-energy live music and dance from across Latin America
Hands-on fun for kids with crafts and games
Local food vendors serving up Latin American favorites
An artisan marketplace full of handmade art and jewelry
Community booths with resources and services
The celebration is part of Latino Heritage Month, which runs from September 15 to October 24, and will also feature events like concha-making workshops and a Day of the Dead gathering. It’s going to be great!
PUSD Band Headed to the 2027 Rose Parade
Cheers erupted inside the Pasadena High School auditorium this week as students learned the PUSD All-Star Band has been selected for the 2027 Tournament of Roses Parade. It’s the first time in decades the district has earned a spot through the competitive application process.
The surprise announcement came during a special assembly with district leaders and Tournament of Roses officials on hand. Students celebrated with their families and even shared cake after hearing the news.
Yes, 2027 is a ways off, but in Pasadena, planning for the parade starts years ahead. With 120 musicians from every PUSD high school, the All-Star Band will give the city a true hometown ensemble to cheer for on New Year’s Day.

CIVIL NEWS
Pasadena Eyes Rent Reduction Guidelines
Yesterday, the Pasadena Rental Housing Board considered creating guidelines for rent decreases when apartments have habitability issues or services get cut back.
Tenants can already petition for reductions, but without official standards it’s often guesswork. Other cities provide models—Los Angeles uses advisory ranges, while Santa Monica spells out dollar amounts (like $18–$228 a month for leaks or pests, and more for losing parking).
Pasadena’s rules would serve only as reference points, but they could make the process clearer for both renters and landlords.
